How to take part
If you want to bring your film to one of the popup or festival events there are a few things you need to do and know before hand.
Firstly, all films must be under five minutes in length. No graphic sex or violence please, we don’t want to be busted by the vice squad.
At present we can only play films on iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch 4th and 3rd generations – but we are working on a projector for other smartphone models.
After that it is up to you, if you think your film is good enough to show, then we’ll show it – after all it is your festival. To get an idea of the kind of content other smart moviemakers are producing, check out our Vimeo group. Popular genres for iPhone films include; documentaries, cinematography, music videos, narrative shorts, action sports and fashion shoots.
We are trying to make all events free entry, but may have to charge a small admission fee at certain venues.
To sign up for an event please go to our meetup page (there is also a button at the bottom of each page which will take you there) and fill out the details as required.
You can always ‘popup’ on the night, but there will be no guarantee we can show your film if you haven’t signed up.
If you know of a suitable venue in your area and want us to visit, please get in touch! We are a ‘Popup’ Festival, remember.
While our projector will play YouTube videos, we don’t want to rely on Wi-Fi so it is best to store your film on your device, either in the camera roll or synced to your iTunes account so it plays locally off your iPhone.
If your film is not stored on your device, ie, in your camera roll, upload it to iTunes by connecting your device and syncing up by dragging and dropping the film you want to show into the movies section (panel on left) of your iPhone/iTouch.
• For more instructions on converting films for mobile devices, see: How to: Convert Video For Use On iPhone, iPod, iPad, AppleTV, And Your Mac
Download the Pop Video app beforehand if you can and as soon as you connect your device to the projector your film will play.
And that’s pretty much it, come along, share your film, meet other filmmakers and generally hangout and have a good time and we’ll see where it goes from there. Hopefully we’ll have DJs and audio-visual artists involved to provide sound and vision during the events.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
